How Pioneers Did It — Soaps, Lotions & Potions

It’s easy to go to the store and buy from a shelf of 20+ products for everything you need in your home.

Before commercial storefronts there was the local General Store. Before that was the Mercantile — a one-stop shop for nearly anything ordered by catalogue. But before that, pioneers used homemade recipes to create their soap, lotions, and many other hand crafted items that we use today.

Not only did home crafters make breads, pies, and jellies, but also lineaments, salves, poultices, and even love potions.

Join use in mid-December for a look at pioneering creations that made their lives more tolerable. Our Evening Desert series looks at “Soaps and Lotions and Potions” at Lucerne Valley Community Center. Look for info and posters coming soon.

Guest speakers are still being gathered, date to be announced. It’s free to the public. Refreshments will be available. Grade school and homeschooling families are encouraged to attend.
